New Mexico Lions Eye Bank
Since 1962, the New Mexico Lions Eye Bank has served the ocular needs of approximately 2 million people and 34 hospitals throughout New Mexico and the surrounding region.
Without surgery, Rose’s painful eye condition, Keratoconus, would have prevented her from continuing her job and performing everyday tasks. Now, because of the generosity of two cornea donors, Rose is able to see.
In addition to evaluating, releasing, and distributing tissue for transplant, NMLEB offers health care professionals educational opportunities at civic events, health fairs, home health care agencies, hospice facilities, hospitals, the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator, and public and private organizations.
NMLEB works in conjunction with the surrounding community to host outreach programs aimed at increasing donation awareness, such as the Donor/Recipient Memorial, which is held every other year. This TBI branch also recognizes national donor programs, such as:
- National Eye Donor Month in March
- National Donate Life Month in April
- National Minority Awareness Day in August
- National Donor Sabbath in November
