Human allograft tissue is the name given to donated anatomical material from deceased donors which is utilized to enhance the lives of recipients. Tissue is similar to, but not the same as, human solid organs such as the heart, liver or pancreas which may also be transplanted. TBI recovers the following human anatomical tissues that restore sight, health or mobility, alleviate pain and may even save lives:

TBI started as an eye bank. Eye banks concentrate on retrieving tissues used in eye surgery that restores or improves sight. Most eye banks focus on retrieving corneas. The cornea is the clear front window of the eye, about the size and shape of a dime. It transmits light to the interior of the eye allowing us to see clearly. Corneal injury, disease or hereditary conditions can cause clouding, distortion and scarring that may result in blindness. But corneal blindness is one of the few forms of blindness that can be cured. In a delicate procedure, the surgeon removes the damaged cornea and replaces it with a cornea donated by a recently deceased person.
