Tissue Banks International Expands Distribution of Clearant Treated Tissue Implants

First to Use New Sterilization Technology that Inactivates Pathogens, Maintains Allograft Integrity

TBI/Tissue Banks International, a non-profit provider of tissues for orthopedic, spinal, sports medicine, and urologic surgery, has expanded distribution of its sterilized tissue allografts using Clearant's patented pathogen inactivation technology, known as the Clearant Process(R). TBI's initial application of this Process involves TranZgraft(R) ligaments, tendons and other soft tissue allografts primarily used in the repair of sports injuries.

The Clearant Process(R) is the only pathogen inactivation process available to sterilize tissue allografts in their final packaging ("terminal sterilization"), and to significantly inactivate all classes of infectious agents, including bacteria, fungi, parasites, spores and both enveloped and non-enveloped viruses, while maintaining the integrity and function of the allograft.

TBI, which has been a source of safe, high quality tissue for more than forty years, was first worldwide to offer tissues treated with the Clearant Process(R) in April, 2003. This new Process that increases safety without compromising the quality of the tissue is a scientific breakthrough that will reassure surgeons and patients of the safety and quality of the tissues they receive from TBI. The Clearant Process(R) is the only current pathogen inactivation technology designed to be used for allograft tissue in the final container, making the allograft ready for use in the operating room.
