TBI 2003 Run for Vision is a Winner!

TBI's Run for Vision 2003 held on Saturday, October 18 in the Baltimore Marathon was a great success for our organization and those we serve. Because we expanded this year's run to include a Run for Mobility, allograft tissue transplant recipients as well as cornea recipients will benefit from this network-wide event. Tripling the number of runners over 2002 increased revenue with this year's revenue projected to be $85,000. Pledges and gifts are still coming in, and proceeds could reach $100,000.

John Grande, Chairman of the Frederick N. Griffith Foundation, served as Master of Ceremonies at the Run for Vision post-race event held Saturday evening. As part of the program, Grande Financial Services sponsored several awards. Winners included Tom Buckley Executive Director of the New England Eye & Tissue Transplant Bank as the Fastest Marathoner, and the Creeping Substitution from TBI's National Processing Center as the Fastest Relay Team. The See-Biscuit team received the Most Creative Team Relay Name Award, while See-Biscuit team members John and Traudy Grande won the Fund Raising Award. Board member Tim Askew took home the Run for Vision Team Spirit Award for his appearance as Elvis, and Tim Fischer, Executive Director of the Indiana Lions Eye and Tissue Transplant Bank received the First Timer Award for his outstanding half-marathon effort.

A big round of applause to all our participants for their athletic and fund raising accomplishments. And special thanks to all Run for Vision sponsors for their generosity in helping to bring restored vision and health to transplant patients throughout the United States and the world.
